Volleyball Recap: Newington Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

Newington had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Simsbury on Friday. The Nor'easters blew past the Trojans 3-0. The Nor'easters were shut out 3-0 the last time they took on the Trojans, so the Nor'easters were just returning the favor.

Newington walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the second set). The final score came out to 25-17, 25-13, 25-18.

Newington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tristan Gorman led the charge by getting nine digs and two aces. Gorman has been hot for a while, having also posted 17 or more assists the last ten times he's played.

Newington is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Simsbury, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

Looking ahead, Newington will host Academy of Science and Innovation at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Simsbury, they will venture away from home to challenge Amity Regional at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
