Softball Preview: Dansville Mustangs vs. Avon Braves
The Dansville Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Avon Braves at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Dansville has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while Avon will arrive with six straight wins.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Dansville's offense. They came up short against Wayland-Cohocton on Thursday, falling 21-0.
Meanwhile, while Avon put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Pavilion. The Braves blew past the Golden Gophers 9-0. The result was nothing new for the Braves, who have now won three matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Jessie Crye was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, Payton Rice was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Violet Philips also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Avon pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Dansville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
