Basketball Recap: Geneseo Comes Up Short

Geneseo lost against Alleman back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Geneseo Maple Leafs took a blow against the Alleman Pioneers, falling 57-30. While losing is never fun, the Maple Leafs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 296th, while the Pioneers are ranked 80th).

This is the second loss in a row for Geneseo and nudges their season record down to 8-20. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 21-6 Galesburg (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 75.6% over those games). As for Alleman, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season.

Looking ahead, Geneseo will square off against East Moline United at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Alleman, they will take on Galesburg at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Alleman has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
