Basketball Recap: Braxton County's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

It was a good run, but Braxton County unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against the Nicholas County Grizzlies, falling 70-50. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Eagles have suffered since December 14, 2024.

Braxton County's loss came despite strong showings from Ryken Rutherford and Steve Boggs. Rutherford went 8 for 19 on his way to 20 points and five rebounds, while Boggs posted eight points in addition to 11 boards and six blocks. Rutherford has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was George Seller, who put up three points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Braxton County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Nicholas County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaac Miner out in front who went 5 of 9 en route to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Miner, who had seven points along with 15 boards and three steals.

Braxton County's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-3. As for Nicholas County, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Braxton County will welcome Doddridge County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Braxton County is on a four-game streak of home wins, Doddridge County a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Nicholas County, they will host Princeton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Princeton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches.
