Softball Recap: Minneota's Winning Streak Snapped at Ten Games

After a string of ten wins, Minneota's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Lac qui Parle Valley Eagles by a score of 6-5. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Madison Hennen spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up 19 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, McKenzie Bednarek stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Kiersyn Hulzebos, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Minneota's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 12-2. As for Lac qui Parle Valley, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.

Minneota and Lac qui Parle Valley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings. The Vikings will challenge Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (64 vs. 223). Meanwhile, Lac qui Parle Valley (ranked 102nd) will meet Ortonville (ranked 321st) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in the Eagles' favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while the Trojans have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
