Basketball Recap: Westland Comes Up Short

Westland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by the Hayes Pacers 89-45. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 382nd, while the Pacers are ranked 15th).

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Breaker Heller Jr., who posted ten points in addition to six assists and three steals. Heller Jr. has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Phoenix Funderburke was another key player, going 5-for-10 on his way to 13 points.

Westland's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Hayes, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westland will welcome Big Walnut at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hayes, they will host Olentangy at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
