Baseball Recap: Avon Eagles vs. St. Edward Eagles

After a string of 11 wins, Avon's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Edward Eagles. Avon was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as St. Edward apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2017.

Brody Papay was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Avon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ian Cain, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

On St. Edward's side, they got a great performance from Max Mcclellan as he struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits.

At the plate, Dan Tome was incredible, going 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Avon's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-11-1. As for St. Edward, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-11.

As of now, neither Avon nor St. Edward have any future games scheduled.
