Basketball Recap: Montezuma-Cortez Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Montezuma-Cortez won the last time they faced Bayfield, and Trey Hall did his part to make sure it happened again. The Montezuma-Cortez Panthers secured a 59-54 W over the Bayfield Wolverines on Saturday thanks in part to Hall, who went 8 of 12 en route to 22 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. He has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times he's played.

Another player making a difference was Asher Bennetts, who posted four points in addition to seven boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in steals.

Despite the loss, Bayfield still got an impressive performance from Cooper Roderick, who put up 21 points. That was a full 38.9% of Bayfield's points, marking the third time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. Hayes Malone was another key player, putting up 11 points.

The win was the fourth in a row for Montezuma-Cortez, bringing their record for this year to 13-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for Bayfield, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-6.

Montezuma-Cortez will be playing at home against Centauri at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Montezuma-Cortez has won three straight at home, while Centauri won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Bayfield has already played their next matchup (against Alamosa), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
