Basketball Recap: Contreras Find Success

Contreras won the last time they faced Mendez, and Brian Castro did his part to make sure it happened again. The Contreras Cobras secured a 57-51 W over the Mendez Jaguars on Friday thanks in part to Castro, who posted 36 points. His afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Mendez lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being John Rodriguez, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Garcia, who put up 14 points and five rebounds.

The victory got Contreras back to even at 3-3. As for Mendez, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

After both having extra time off, Contreras and Roybal will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 4:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. As for Mendez, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Mendez Jaguars challenge the Robert F. Kennedy Community Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025.
