Softball Game Preview: Rocky River Pirates vs. Valley Forge Patriots

Rocky River is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Valley Forge a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Rocky River Pirates will look to defend their home field against the Valley Forge Patriots at 5:00 p.m. Rocky River's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Valley Forge's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Rocky River fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against North Olmsted on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 3-2.

Reagan Kane spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 15 Ks.

At the plate, Rocky River saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leigh Konet, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That stolen base was Konet's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Valley Forge came up short against Lakewood on Tuesday, falling 26-5.

Valley Forge's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Rocky River, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Rocky River came out on top in a nail-biter against Valley Forge when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 18-17. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
