Preview: New Buffalo Bison vs. Howardsville Christian Eagles
After two games on the road, New Buffalo is heading back home. They will take on the Howardsville Christian Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully New Buffalo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, New Buffalo was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 54-53 to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic. New Buffalo has not had much luck with Our Lady of the Lake Catholic recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite their loss, New Buffalo saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. M'nason Smothers, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. It was the first time this season that Smothers scored 15 or more points. Elliott Bourne was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Howardsville Christian can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Covert with a sharp 64-41 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Howardsville Christian.
New Buffalo's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-8. As for Howardsville Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
New Buffalo was dealt a bruising 79-49 defeat at the hands of Howardsville Christian in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point New Buffalo was down 53-31.
