Softball Recap: Lowell Starts off Right with Win over Half Moon Bay

Lowell had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They never let the Half Moon Bay Cougars get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. The Cardinals have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.

Kaylee Kline was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 19 over seven innings pitched. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

Half Moon Bay moved to 4-1 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, Lowell and Half Moon Bay will both be playing Terra Nova the next time they take the field. Lowell will host Terra Nova at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Half Moon Bay will play them later in the day, at 2:00 p.m.
