Basketball Game Preview: Marietta Blue Devils vs. Bishop Kenny Crusaders

The Marietta Blue Devils will take on the Bishop Kenny Crusaders in a tournament on Friday. Marietta is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56 points per game this season.

Marietta saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took down James F. Byrnes 62-47. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blue Devils.

Marietta's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leah DeWitt, who went 9 for 19 on her way to 26 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which DeWitt has scored at least a third of Marietta's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyann Senior, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards.

Marietta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Bishop Kenny came tearing into Monday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Crusaders 50-17. Bishop Kenny has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 28 points or more this season.

Bishop Kenny pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 17.3 points per game. As for Marietta, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
