Basketball Recap: Veterans Snags Tenth Victory in Last 13 Games

Veterans had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They snuck past the Jones County Greyhounds with a 41-36 win. Given the Warhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while the Greyhounds are ranked 316th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Veterans to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tristen Abner, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Abner a new career-high in steals (five). Jaivyon Dawson was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Veterans has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Jones County, they dropped their record down to 3-14 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Veterans will welcome Lee County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jones County, they will be playing at home against Ola at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
