Softball Recap: Dunlap Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Washington

Dunlap faced Washington in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Eagles fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 5-3. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Sutton Centoni spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rachel Mies made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Kaitlyn Atkinson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Dunlap's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 23-5. As for Washington, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 26-2.

Looking ahead, Dunlap will challenge Bloomington Central Catholic at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Washington, they will take on Normal Community at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
