Preview: Whitman Vikings vs. Landon Bears
The Whitman Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Landon Bears at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Whitman had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They secured a 52-47 W over Poolesville.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whitman to victory, but perhaps none more so than Evan Brown, who scored 17 points. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him. Thomas Farrell was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Landon is ranked highly in their home state, and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Flint Hill. Landon snuck past Flint Hill with a 64-59 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Whitman pushed their record up to 4-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.2 points per game. As for Landon, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
Whitman was dealt a bruising 88-51 defeat at the hands of Landon when the teams last played back in December of 2018. Can Whitman avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
