Baseball Recap: New Athens Yellow Jackets vs. Valmeyer Pirates
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Farmington, New Athens was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Valmeyer Pirates. The victory was some much needed relief for the Yellow Jackets as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Carson Lauer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Wil Mulholland, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. New Athens is 3-1 when Mulholland posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brodie Sieber, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
