Memphis East extends home winning streak to ten

Recap: Memphis East Mustangs vs. Whitehaven Tigers

The Memphis East Mustangs waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Whitehaven and snuck past 82-79. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Tristan Spearman continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 41 points along with five assists. She has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashlee Sinkfield, who scored 15 points.

Whitehaven lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Layla Hampton, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine assists. Hampton also pulled down eight rebounds for the first time this season. La'niyah Moore was another key contributor, scoring 23 points.

Even though they lost, Whitehaven were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Memphis East only racked up ten assists.

Memphis East pushed their record up to 17-4 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Whitehaven, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Memphis East will face off against the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kingsbury will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 380th, while the Mustangs are ranked 48th). As for Whitehaven, they will head out on the road to take on the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
