Basketball Preview: Corner Canyon Chargers vs. Herriman Mustangs

Corner Canyon is 0-4 against the Mustangs since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Corner Canyon Chargers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Herriman Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Thursday, Corner Canyon didn't have too much trouble with the Silverwolves on the road as they won 62-47. Given Corner Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Silverwolves are ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Elina Mortensen, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Corner Canyon's points. Another player making a difference was Sorrelle Nielsen, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Herriman beat the Sentinels 49-41 on Thursday. The victory was just what Herriman needed coming off of a 57-34 defeat in their prior contest.

Corner Canyon's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Herriman, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
