The Agoura Chargers will venture away from home to square off against the Westlake Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Agoura will be strutting in after a win while Westlake will be coming in after a loss.
While Chargers fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Friday's season opener. They were the clear victor by a 48-28 margin over Oak Park on Friday.
Agoura's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Gray led the charge by throwing for 241 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes. Agoura also got a significant boost from Jake Mercer, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 89 yards.
Agoura didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Brady Dieffenbach led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Tyler Starling's longest reception was for an incredible 94 yards. Garrett Andrews was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 12 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Westlake was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 19-14 to Golden Valley.
Agoura barely slipped by Westlake when the teams last played back in August of 2023, winning 21-20. The rematch might be a little tougher for Agoura since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
