Basketball Recap: New Hampstead Comes Up Short

New Hampstead was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost an 81-78 heartbreaker at the hands of the Benedictine Cadets. While losing is never fun, the Phoenix can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while the Cadets are ranked 40th).

It was another big night for Caleb Jones, who shot 5-for-8 from deep and dropped a double-double with 49 points and 11 rebounds for Benedictine. Jones is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 49 games he's played dating back to last season. CaRon Hall was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 16 points and nine boards.

New Hampstead's defeat dropped their record down to 12-14. As for Benedictine, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.

New Hampstead does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Benedictine, they will head out to take on Warner Robins at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Benedictine knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 contests -- so hopefully Warner Robins likes a good challenge.
