Softball Game Preview: Watertown Arrows vs. Mitchell Kernels

Watertown is a perfect 4-0 against Mitchell since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Arrows will face off against the Kernels at 5:30 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Watertown came up short against Brookings and fell 7-3.

Lauryn Hirsch was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run.

Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Mitchell ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-6 margin over Aberdeen Central. With that win, the Kernels brought their scoring average up to 8.2 runs per game.

Rylee Jennings and Macey Linke were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Jennings tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Linke struck out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. At the plate, Jennings scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Linke scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mitchell let Mallory Miedema and Delaney Linke run wild. Miedema scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5, while Linke scored three runs while going 3-for-6. Another player making a difference was Kinsley Herges, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-6.

Mitchell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Watertown came out on top in a nail-biter against Mitchell when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. Do the Arrows have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Kernels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
