MaxPreps 2017 Kentucky Preseason Football Fab 5, presented by the Army National Guard

1. Trinity (Louisville)
2016 record: 15-0
Head coach: Bob Beatty

The Louisville power finished last season as the No. 16 team in the final Xcellent 25 rankings after breezing through the 2016 season with a 15-0 record and a class 6A state championship. It was the school's 24th state title and 12th under head coach Bob Beatty.

Senior Rondale Moore is back after seven catches for 130 yards in the championship game.



Trinity must replace Spencer Blackburn was named MVP of the game after rushing for 110 yards and two TDs on 11 carries while throwing 14 of 16 for 222 yards and four scores.

2. Lafayette (Lexington)
2016 record: 13-2
Head coach: Eric Shaw

The Generals will look to rebound after a stinging defeat to Trinity is the state final.

Lafayette first must find a replacement for quarterback Walker Wood. That just might fall to rising junior Teandre Newcomb.

Running back Cameron Morgan, a rising senior, is back for the Generals, as is 6-foot-1, 2015 pound linebacker/running back Ean Shaw.

3. Scott County (Georgetown)
2016 record: 11-3
Head coach: Jim McKee

The Cardinals are eyeing a trip farther in the playoffs after a semifinal loss in 2016.

Joshua Davis is back at quarterback for Jim McKee and the rising senior looks to lead the Scott County offense along with running back Brice Fryman.

Fryman will look to run behind 6-5, 280 pound tackle Bryan Hudson.

Defensively, Eric Gut, Antonio Alfaro and Greyson Schrack should handle things up front, while Nickolas Hickey leads a youthful linebacking corps.

4. Bowling Green
2016 record: 15-0
Head coach: Kevin Wallace

Bowling Green must find a way to replace Clark Payne, who threw for 3,840 yards and 44 TDs in last season's 5A championship year.

The Purples will lean on rising sophomore Vito Tisdale at running back. He has big shoes to fill replacing Jamale Carothers, who ran for 1,400 and 27 scores. Ziyon Kenner is a 5-10, 170 wideout who had 673 yards and five TDs receive as a junior in a senior-heavy receiving corps.

J'son Beason, a rising senior, will be stout at middle linebacker, while Justice Dingle a 6-2, 230 tight end and linebacker bring back his 68 tackles from last season.

5. St. Xavier (Louisville)
2016 record: Wil Wolford
Head coach: 10-4



The Tiger will need to replace graduated quarterback Desmond Ridder. Rising senior Jack Albers looks to be that guy. He'll have a big line to protect him with 6-4, 290 pound guard Wyatt Smock and 6-5, 325 pound tackle Chase Farris working in the trenches.

Cameron Garrett returns for his senior season at wide receiver for St. Xavier.
