Baseball Game Preview: Dixie Heights Colonels vs. Conner Cougars

The Dixie Heights Colonels will venture away from home to challenge the Conner Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Conner took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Dixie Heights, who comes in off a win.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Dixie Heights and St. Henry meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Colonels walked away with a 6-2 win over the Crusaders.

Noah Cline spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Oliver Linstruth, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Dixie Heights: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Linwood Ernay, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Conner faced off against Beechwood on Wednesday. The Cougars fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cougars have suffered since April 15th.

Dixie Heights is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-13 record this season. As for Conner, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-14.

Dixie Heights suffered a grim 14-3 defeat to Conner in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Colonels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
