Baseball Game Preview: Randolph Cardinals vs. Ellicottville Eagles

For the second straight game, Randolph will face off against Ellicottville. The Cardinals will be playing at home against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Randolph has four straight wins, Ellicottville has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Randolph will bounce into Monday's match after beating Ellicottville, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Cardinals blew past the Eagles 12-1 on Friday. With that victory, the Cardinals brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Aiden Taylor tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, David Malone and Connor Braley did most of the damage at the plate: Malone went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Braley went 1-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Malone has become a key player for Randolph: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Randall Nottingham, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Ellicottville's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Randolph, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
