Dayton is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Calvary Christian. One positive for the Greendevils, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Chad Nickell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Dayton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elias Lopez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Ludlow beat Villa Madonna 9-4 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.
Miller Reed was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Reed was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Deakon Reed, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Dayton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Ludlow, their record now sits at 2-0.
Dayton suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Ludlow when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Dayton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
