Softball Recap: Crete Cardinals vs. Wayne Blue Devils

Wayne typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Crete proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victor by a 9-2 margin over the Wayne Blue Devils. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.

Madynn Dunham made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in September. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with a home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Kacey Dunaway was excellent, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Lesli Kratochvil, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a double.

Crete kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wayne only hit five.

Crete has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season. As for Wayne, their loss dropped their record down to 18-11.

Crete didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 11-0 win against Raymond Central on the 7th. As for Wayne, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-1 victory against Lincoln Northwest on the 7th.
