Basketball Recap: Stafford Spartans vs. Iowa Colony Pioneers
The Stafford Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They were beaten by Iowa Colony 53-9. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Stafford has scored all season.
Iowa Colony found their leader in underclassman Payton Watson, who scored 13 points along with six steals. Watson is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for four games straight. Another player making a difference was Janyha Johnson, who scored six points along with six steals and five assists.
Stafford has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-19 record this season. As for Iowa Colony, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 25-8.
Stafford will head out on the road to face off against the Roughnecks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Columbia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 37 on Friday. Iowa Colony does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
