The Eastlake Falcons will face off against the Chapin Huskies at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Eastlake is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
On Tuesday, Eastlake needed a bit of extra time to put away Parkland. They won by a run and slipped past the Matadors 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcons have posted since February 14th.
Aydenn Estrada tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Gabriella Martinez and Samantha Ponce did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Ponce scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chapin). They were the clear victor by a 28-6 margin over Bel Air on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won ten contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Yaretzi Acosta was a standout: she went 4-for-6 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Pena, who went 3-for-6 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
Chapin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bel Air only posted an OBP of .464.
Chapin pushed their record up to 14-5-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Eastlake, their win bumped their record up to 16-5.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Eastlake has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .493. However, it's not like Chapin struggles in that department as they've averaged .549. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Eastlake's way against Chapin in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Eastlake made off with an 8-0 victory. Will Eastlake repeat their success, or does Chapin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
