Softball Recap: Valley Regional Has No Trouble Against Portland

Valley Regional won the last time they faced Portland and things went their way on Monday too. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Highlanders. That looming 13-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.

Paige Williams was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Williams was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nataly Pavon-Avila, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Amelia Giantonio, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Valley Regional's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Portland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
