Baseball Recap: South Sumter Falls Short of Umatilla in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact South Sumter can now relate to. They fell just short of the Umatilla Bulldogs by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, with their most recent loss being a 9-7 defeat on Wednesday.

Jackson Gill was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Malakhi Boone was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for South Sumter and nudges their season record down to 23-6. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Umatilla, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-14.

South Sumter does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Umatilla, they will take on Hernando at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The last five games the Leopards have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
