Basketball Recap: Albert Sample III's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Milby over Austin

Milby was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 65-59 heartbreaker at the hands of the Austin Mustangs. The Buffs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 41-36.

Milby lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Albert Sample III, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Sample III a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Delani Pestaina, who went 6 for 10 en route to 16 points.

Even though they lost, Milby smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. This was only their 13th loss (out of 18 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Milby's loss dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Austin, they moved to 11-13 with that victory, which also ended their six-game losing streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Milby will square off against Sterling at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Sterling will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Milby surely won't give up without a fight. As for Austin, they will take on Waltrip at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Waltrip is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.4 points per game this season.
