Softball Game Preview: Damonte Ranch Mustangs vs. Carson Senators

Damonte Ranch has gone 8-2 against Carson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Senators at 3:45 p.m. Carson took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Damonte Ranch, who comes in off a win.

Damonte Ranch is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Spanish Springs, who was ranked sixth at the time (Damonte Ranch was ranked 23rd). The Mustangs came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 5-1 on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Jocelyn Pimentel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Damonte Ranch's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Tapia, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Carson fell victim to Bishop Manogue and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Miners. The Senators haven't had much luck with the Miners recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Carson's loss dropped their record down to 9-13-1. As for Damonte Ranch, their win bumped their record up to 6-15.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Damonte Ranch hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Carson struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Damonte Ranch beat Carson 13-9 in their previous matchup on April 8th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
