Softball Game Preview: Mascoutah Indians vs. Columbia Eagles

Mascoutah hasn't had much luck against Columbia recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Mascoutah will look to defend their home field against Columbia at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Mascoutah barely beat Wesclin the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Mascoutah's pitcher stepped up to hand Wesclin a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Indians have beaten the Warriors the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Warriors has come to flipping the script.

The team relied heavily on Callie Kunz, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Boehm, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Mascoutah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wesclin only posted an OBP of .077.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Columbia, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Mater Dei on Wednesday as Columbia made off with a 7-1 win.

Mascoutah now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Columbia, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
