Basketball Game Preview: Wharton Tigers vs. Brazosport Exporters

Wharton hasn't had much luck against Brazosport recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wharton Tigers will head out to challenge the Brazosport Exporters at 7:30 p.m. Wharton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.3 points per game this season.

On Tuesday, Wharton came up short against Bay City and fell 57-50.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Javien Smith, who posted ten points and seven boards. That's the most rebounds he has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jameir Hearne-Robinson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wharton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Brazosport suffered their biggest loss since January 26, 2024 on Tuesday. They took a blow against La Marque, falling 72-29. The Exporters haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Brazosport's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 13-8. As for Wharton, their loss dropped their record down to 16-9.

Wharton came up short against Brazosport when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 70-63. Can Wharton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
