Baseball Game Preview: Desert Vista Thunder vs. Sunnyslope Vikings

The Desert Vista Thunder will square off against the Sunnyslope Vikings at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Neither Desert Vista nor Sunnyslope posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Desert Vista lost 8-1 to Brophy College Prep on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Thunder in their meetings with the Broncos: they've now lost seven in a row.

Desert Vista got a good showing from Seth Skinner, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the first time Skinner hasn't allowed a single earned run since back in March.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Sunnyslope's offense. They fell 5-0 to Corona del Sol on Friday. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Chase Simpson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

Desert Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Sunnyslope, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.

Desert Vista was able to grind out a solid victory over Sunnyslope in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 6-3. Do the Thunder have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
