Green Canyon has gone 9-1 against Bear River recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Green Canyon Wolves will be home for the holidays to greet the Bear River Bears at 7:00 p.m. Green Canyon will be strutting in after a win while Bear River will be coming in after a defeat.
Green Canyon is headed into the matchup having just posted their biggest victory since February 22nd on Saturday. They blew past Hurricane 61-35. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-14.
Green Canyon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Talyssa Nelson out in front who posted 15 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Hinds, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
Green Canyon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Bear River managed to keep up with Fremont until halftime on Wednesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Bear River came up short against Fremont, falling 56-36. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Silverwolves are ranked 13th).
Loss or not, Bear River got some senior leadership from Shelby Wilkinson and Aubree Fry. Wilkinson put up three points along with five rebounds and five steals, while Fry had ten points and four steals. Fry has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played.
Bear River's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Green Canyon, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Green Canyon has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Bear River struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Green Canyon beat Bear River 54-41 in their previous matchup back in February. Will Green Canyon repeat their success, or does Bear River have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
