Basketball Game Preview: Piedmont Highlanders vs. Alameda Hornets

The Piedmont Highlanders will head out to take on the Alameda Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Piedmont has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Last Friday, Piedmont came up short against Berkeley and fell 76-67. That's two games in a row now that the Highlanders have lost by exactly nine points.

Meanwhile, Alameda entered their tilt with Encinal on Saturday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They breezed by the Jets to the tune of 82-55. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while the Jets are ranked 642nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Alameda's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.0 points over those games. As for Piedmont, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season.

Piedmont lost to Alameda on the road by a decisive 74-60 margin in their previous meeting back in January. Can Piedmont avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
