Softball Recap: Custer County Comes Up Short

Custer County couldn't beat Sidney on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Cowboys fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 8-7. The Cowboys were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

Caitlin Malenovsky spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up 11 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Ryleigh Eurich was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Bailee White, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Custer County has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. Sidney's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4.

Custer County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 19-3 victory against Havre on the 24th. Sidney has also already played their next matchup (against Hardin), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
