Monroe City won the last time they faced Liberty and things went their way on Saturday too. The Monroe City Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 41-38 win over the Liberty Eagles. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 86th in Missouri, while the Eagles are ranked 354th in Illinois), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Reed Sparrow, who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Edgar, who posted six points.

Monroe City's victory bumped their record up to 17-4. As for Liberty, their loss dropped their record down to 16-10.

We've got a battle between Panthers coming up. Monroe City has insisted on making their last three contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests. As for Liberty, they have already played their next game, a 64-35 defeat against Hamilton/Warsaw on the 10th.
