Not a late touchdown. Not a big defensive stop. Not a costly turnover.
A coin flip.
The bizarre circumstance was the result of the wild weather that has wreaked havoc on Texas high school football games throughout the state on Friday night.
Lufkin traveled nearly 150 miles for the game, which was impossible to play on Friday night due to severe weather. The area was under heavy thunderstorm and flash flood warning much of the night.
According to the Ennis Daily News,
Lufkin (Texas) refused to return on Saturday to play the game then. Doing so would have required the team to drive 150 miles back to Lufkin late Friday night, only to return to
Ennis (Texas) on Saturday.
As a result, a coin flip was used to determine the game's winner, in accordance with UIL rules. Lufkin won the coin toss, and was awarded the victory.
