Basketball Game Preview: Steele Canyon Cougars vs. Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions

The Steele Canyon Cougars will face off against the Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Steele Canyon will head into Monday's game on the come-up: they were handed a 29-point loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They skirted past Canyon Crest Academy 54-51. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since December 2nd.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Mountain Ridge ultimately got the result they hoped for two weeks ago. They came out on top against Sunrise Mountain by a score of 70-63. Winning may never get old, but the Mountain Lions sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Steele Canyon better keep an eye on Jaiden Thompson. He was instrumental in Mountain Ridge's win, going 13 of 22 en route to 35 points. Thompson's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jagger Cockrell, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 boards.

Mountain Ridge's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.6 points per game. As for Steele Canyon, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
