Baseball Recap: Canyon View Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

While Canyon View's win against Willow Canyon wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Jaguars had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 6-5 on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.

Canyon View got a great performance from Cason Hagerman as he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Hagerman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Eli McBryde and Rolando Valles did most of the damage at the plate: McBryde scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Valles went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Valles has posted over his last ten games. Another player making a difference was Brock Berlan, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Canyon View's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Willow Canyon, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-5.

Canyon View and Willow Canyon should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings. The Jaguars will challenge Desert Edge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (18 vs. 123). Meanwhile, Willow Canyon (ranked 32nd) will meet Ironwood (ranked 194th) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
