Basketball Game Preview: Nuiqsut Trapper Trappers vs. Nunamiut Amaguq

Nuiqsut Trapper is 1-9 against Nunamiut since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Nuiqsut Trapper Trappers will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against the Nunamiut Amaguq at 11:30 a.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Nuiqsut Trapper is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Alak two weeks ago (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Nuiqsut Trapper lost 54-31 to Alak. The loss was the Trappers' first of the season.

Meanwhile, Nunamiut unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 75-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Non Varsity Tournament Opponent. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (56), the Amaguq still had to take the loss.

Nuiqsut Trapper will need focus on slowing down Justus Mulcahy, one of several Nunamiut players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 11 points and five steals. Mulcahy is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Alexander Galloso, who scored 15 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Nuiqsut Trapper's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 3-1. As for Nunamiut, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Nuiqsut Trapper was dealt a bruising 80-35 defeat at the hands of Nunamiut when the teams last played back in February of 2024.
