Baseball Game Preview: Ramona Bulldogs vs. Mar Vista Mariners

The Ramona Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Mar Vista Mariners at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Ramona had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Foothills Christian on Thursday. The Bulldogs' pitchers stepped up to hand the Knights a 12-0 shutout. That looming 12-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bulldogs yet this season.

Justin Jarrett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ramona is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. Jarrett was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Ramona let Derek Taylor and Blake Hollopeter run wild. Taylor scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Hollopeter scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave Hollopeter a new career-high. Tyler Haymes also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Mar Vista had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 6-3 win over Canyon Crest Academy on Thursday.

Ramona's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mar Vista, their record now sits at 7-8.
