Recap: Hartsville Red Foxes vs. Wilson Tigers

The Hartsville Red Foxes had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They snuck past Wilson with a 54-49 victory. This was payback for Hartsville, who suffered a 66-59 loss the last time these two teams met.

Leading Hartsville to victory were Tatiana Fisher and Brooke Mitchell. Fisher dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 rebounds, while Mitchell scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. Mitchell hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. Another player making a difference was Chaniya Thompson, who scored five points.

Wilson's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Leah Spears, who scored 18 points along with six steals and five rebounds, and Leanissa Swinton who scored nine points along with 14 rebounds. Spears is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Murray, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

Hartsville is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Wilson, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.

Hartsville will be playing in front of their home fans against South Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wilson won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against 1 of 1 Academy at 8:00 p.m. on January 20th. 1 of 1 Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully Wilson likes a good challenge.
