Softball Recap: Northern Cambria Colts vs. Portage Mustangs
After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Northern Cambria brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They skirted past the Portage Mustangs 10-9. Considering the Colts' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Alyssa Yahner was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted two runs, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Megan Lubert and Alexa Fox did most of the damage at the plate: Lubert scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4, while Fox scored two runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-2. Those three stolen bases gave Lubert a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Messina, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Northern Cambria kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
