Basketball Recap: Live Oak Comes Up Short

Live Oak lost against Las Plumas back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Live Oak Lions were beaten by the Las Plumas Thunderbirds 70-39. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1089th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 366th).

Las Plumas was led to victory by Noeh Morrison and T.J. Thompson. Morrison went 6 for 8 on his way to 16 points and five boards, while Thompson went 5 of 11 en route to 14 points along with five assists and three steals. Morrison continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Frankie Causey, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 11 points.

Live Oak has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Las Plumas, they moved to 17-8 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Live Oak will challenge Gridley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Gridley has six straight wins, Live Oak has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court. As for Las Plumas, they will take on Oroville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Las Plumas is facing Oroville at the right time seeing as Oroville is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
