Softball Recap: West Brunswick Comes Up Short

After flying high against South Point on Monday, West Brunswick came back down to earth. The Trojans fell just short of the South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 16-1 to the Rowdy Rebel Bulls when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Olivia Brown spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, West Brunswick saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katelyn Woodard, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

West Brunswick has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for South Stanly, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-12.

West Brunswick didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-4 win against North Brunswick on the 23rd. As for South Stanly, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 10-0 victory against Gray Stone Day on the 28th.
