Softball Recap: Unicoi County Triumphs

While Unicoi County put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Elizabethton. The Blue Devils narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Fighting Cyclones 1-0. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Fighting Cyclones recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Lela Byrd made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aaliyah Engle, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

Unicoi County's record is now 16-6. As for Elizabethton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-12 record this season.

As of now, neither Unicoi County nor Elizabethton have any future games scheduled.
